About CCER

The CCER research lab fundamentally studies clinical emergencies – particularly with regard to culture. We look at all clinical emergencies and crises including suicidal behavior, risk management, reasons for living and resilience. Some of the projects that the CCER continues to work on include the adaptation of suicide assessment measures to different cultures, suicide terrorism, the psychology of violent extremism, and culturally based suicide screening in many clinical settings. The CCER Lab specifically studies suicide risk assessment among many diverse populations, standards of care, and the development of clinical crises training programs, as well as on police clinical emergency training programs. A sample of some current CCER projects include the study of suicide prevention and intervention in specific military and veteran communities, suicide in Latinx and LGBTQ+ populations, the effectiveness of graduate training in suicide risk and violence risk assessment, and the relationship between suicide and trauma. The CCER lab collaborates with Stanford, Native American tribal lands, and with several major American and international programs of research.
